You may have heard about the JUST A CARD campaign (if not go and check out their website now) - slightly late to the party, but i was delighted to receive my window sticker, showing my support to this important campaign. The 'Just a Card Week' make be over but that shouldn't be it.
Indies make such a difference, Princes Street could be in any city centre in terms of an unique independent shopping experience (albeit it has Edinburgh castle as a backdrop) but take that away and the shops are the pretty much the same.
So please don't just SAY you support independents - get involved - spread the word - let's MAKE A DIFFERENCE together!
Championing high street independents online are Down your High Street - a virtual independent high street where EVERY PRODUCT LISTED IS FROM INDEPENDENTS and AVAILABLE FOR DELIVERY OR CLICK AND COLLECT OPTION.
Established in 2013 by founder Dan Whytock, DYHS aims to give independent bricks and mortar retailers the opportunity to showcase their products to a wider audience via its bespoke online marketplace, whilst keeping their physical shops alive.
You can also find us on Down your High Street too, don't forget pop over and say hi!
Then as July approaches - it is Independent retailer month, another initiative to support independents it began in the U.S.A. and was first brought to the UK in 2012. It encourages customers to shop independently supporting local businesses and communities.
Independent Retailer Month in the UK has 3 aims:
- To encourage all those who live in the local area to visit their nearby towns and villages, to explore the local, independent businesses in their community and to rediscover what their place has to offer. To vote with their feet, and with their wallets, if they really do care about having a sustainable, thriving high street!
- To encourage independent consumer-facing businesses in towns and village centres to create fun, engaging activities and events throughout July. To focus on attracting the local community back into the town, high street or village centre. To ensure that consumers have a great experience that will in turn make more people want to come back more often.
- To encourage product suppliers and all those who serve the independent retail sector to spread the word. Where possible to garner the support from suppliers to enable the retailers to deliver fantastic in-store events and activities, throughout July.
So hopefully these iniatives can drive more shoppers through independents doors, I know many of my customers are fed up of the same old products available in town, so its time to think outside the (amazon) box and away from your current 'screen' and make the effort to get out and explore, who knows what you'll discover.
As Stockbridge is an area packed full of independent businesses - why not make a day of it and check out what's on offer... why not start off here at Eden and hit our rails for some fantastic unique and individual clothing pieces!
so spread the word...and shop indie and spread the love x
